Your Teacher

Mariel Buxton-Thomas is a native Spanish speaker, who was born in Argentina and completed her secondary and university education in the UK. “I think this places me in the unique position of being able to empathise with my pupils, as I know exactly what it feels like to have to learn a foreign language to the highest level.”  Additionally, she learnt French & Italian at at the ages of 4 and 9 respectively. 

 

She has a Joint (Honours) degree in Interpreting & Translating (with Spanish & French) and qualified as a teacher of modern languages in 2000. With over 20 years’ experience teaching, training & tutoring, Mariel is familiar with a wide range of examination boards, including the new MFL specifications for both Spanish & French at GCSE and A Level.

Until August 2017, Mariel was working as a Spanish, French & Italian teacher at a secondary school in Leicester. Prior to that, she was Head of Spanish at schools in Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.

Mariel believes it is possible for anyone to learn a language, all you need is the wish to learn and you have to be prepared to put in the effort. No matter how young or old your are, with a bit of hard work, anything is possible!
